New
year's holiday is one of the most important
occasion for Japanese people. All the family and relatives
get together.

The
celebration begins on New Year's Eve. On the night of 31 December,
the family eats noodles, which represents long life, then
goes to a local shrine or temple to pray for good fortune
in the comming year.

1 January a special food 'osechi'
is served. Everyone looks forward to receiving New Year's

'kaki zome'

'kaki zome' ..new year's writing, means 'new year's sunrise'.
What does it imply? You may write down your new year's wish
in your own language.

'kagmi Biraki'
゚ヌロヌ肬 ネムヌ゚
Open 'sake' barrel, share glass of 'sake' together. 'kagami',
means mirror, is supposed in which spirit lives in. The top
of 'sake' barrel. its circular shape looks like a mirror,
we name it 'kagami'.

ヤムン゚ ゚ヌロヌ肬 ハレ蓖 ヌ矼ムツノ レバマ テ ヌ瞋賚 ハレヤ ン衂
'hiraki' means open. Opening mirror, we pray for the peace
and joy of the new year.

''kagami mochi'

'mochi' means this circular rice cake. You may find out these
kind of rice cake wherever you go in Japan, especially around
new year.
